The Secret State Archives Prussian Cultural Heritage ( GStA PK) in Berlin is a body of Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. It is one of the larger German state archives and houses especially numerous documents Brandenburg -Prussia ( house and home of the Hohenzollern Prussian Army, provincial authorities, political organizations, maps, etc. ) of historical significance in its holdings. Currently it secures approximately 35,000 linear meters of archival records.

History

The beginnings of the archive date back to the 13th century. First -order work was led in 1468 in the stocks by. Until 1803 it was the Secret Archives. Secret is a title of honor, as it directly to the sovereign - was subordinated - the Hohenzollern. The title Secret State Archives bears the institution since 1803. The archive was located first in the Berlin Palace and then in the monastery in Mitte. In 1924, the authority to Dahlem moved to its current building in the archive 12-14. This was built in 1914-1924 after a design by Eduard Fuerstenau.

Support Library

The archive also includes an extensive service library, which houses a superb collection of Brandenburg and Prussian History. The library contains about 180,000 volumes and 200 periodicals and has been demonstrated in an online catalog.
