Przemysław of Oświęcim

Przemislaus I of Auschwitz (also Primislaus, Przemyslaw; Czech Přemysl Mladší Osvětimský; Polish Przemysław oświęcimski; * 1362/1370, † 1406) was from 1405 to 1406 Duke of Auschwitz. He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piast dynasty.

Life

Przemislaus parents were Duke of Teschen Przemislaus I. and Elisabeth ( † 1373 ), daughter of Duke Bolesław of Bytom and Cosel. Before 1400 he married a woman whose name and origin are not known. The marriage came from the only son of Casimir I ( 1396-1434 ).

Even during his lifetime, his father entrusted him with the Duchy of Gleiwitz, which had fallen to him as part of the inheritance of the Duchy of Bytom after the death of the Duke Boleslaw and the subsequent inheritance dispute 1354-1369 as a dowry of his wife. After the death of Duke John III. of Teschen Auschwitz Auschwitz in 1405 the direct line became extinct, Przemislaus inherited the Duchy of Auschwitz, who founded a new Auschwitz sub-line, but was assassinated a year later. His death was laid the přemyslidischen Opava - Ratiborer Duke Johann II to the load. Since Przemislaus son Casimir was only ten years old, the Duchy of Auschwitz initially fell to Przemislaus father Przemislaus I of Cieszyn.
