The Monte Baldo Mountain Grasshopper ( Pseudoprumna baldensis ) is a grasshopper from the family of grasshoppers ( Acrididae ).

Features

The Monte Baldo Mountain Locust is a stocky built mountain grasshopper. It is colored light green. A dark longitudinal binding runs from the eye over the tympanum to the end of the abdomen. The binding is often resolved only in single spots. Legs and hearing organ are mainly dull reddish gray. Males reach a body length of 14 to 17 mm, females 19-22 mm. Wings are absent. The organ of hearing is well trained.

Occurrence and life

The species is endemic to the Italian Alps. It is so far known only from the eastern slopes of Monte Baldo at altitudes from 1650 to 1800 meters and three mountain sticks west of Lake Garda. The latter deposits were discovered in 1992 by Adolf Nadig. Their habitat is the Almwiesenregion where they can be found on dwarf shrubs and grass often in high density. Adult animals are to be found in August and September.
