Psilorhynchus sucatio

The Spindelschmerlen ( Psilorhynchus, Gr. Hallucinogen = bald, rhyngchos = pine) are a genus of the carp -like ( Cypriniformes ). They live in mountain streams in India, Nepal and Burma. Despite their common name, they are more closely related cyprinids ( Cyprinidae ) than with the Schmerlenartigen ( Cobitoidea ).

Features

Spindelschmerlen are small fish and are four to ten inches long. The body has a flat side of the abdomen, while the back is more curved. Your mouth is small and inferior, the fleshy lips have sharp, horny edges. On the paired pharyngeal bones ( Pharyngealia ) each is a row of four teeth. The fish have no barbels. Your nostrils are narrow. The dorsal fin has ten to twelve fin rays, of which seven or eight are divided. The anal fin is supported by five split -fin rays, the pelvic fins of four or more undivided. The swim bladder is small. Spindelschmerlen have 32 to 50 scales along the lateral line of fully formed.
