Pterocarpus santalinoides is a species of the subfamily of the Fabaceae ( Faboideae ) within the legume family ( Fabaceae ).

Description

In Pterocarpus santalinoides is a tree that reaches heights of growth of up to 15 meters and trunk diameter of up to 50 cm. The gray - brown bark is red in the gate. The change-constant leaves are imparipinnate, hairless and up to 25 cm long.

The axillary, racemose inflorescence up to 20 cm long. The zygomorphic flowers are bright yellow to orange. The egg-shaped to circular legumes are flat, warty and winged at the edge. They contain only a single seed.

Distribution and threat

Pterocarpus santalinoides is common on sandy or moist soils along rivers of the Sudan - Guinea zone and in tropical Africa, but also in tropical America.

She is in the IUCN Red List = as "Least Concern" ( LC) " not at risk " rating.
