Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen, a former fishing village, located in the municipality of Yaiza and is the largest and most important tourist destination of the Canary Island of Lanzarote.

Geography

Many apartment complexes and several hotels are located on the waterfront on a length of about eight kilometers los Pocillos along the extensive beaches of Playa Blanca and Playa de summarized under the name Playa Grande. In the direction of Arrecife, the Playa Matagorda connects. Puerto del Carmen has room for about 30,000 guests. Mainly German and British, followed by Scandinavians and Spaniards constitute the audience.

The place has an integrated whole length main structure from the beach up to the upstream, non- cultivated lands. The different broad sandy beaches bounded by the beach road ( Avenida de las Playas ). On this road, the tourist life day and night concentrated, it is lined with bars, restaurants, boutiques, photo shops, supermarkets and amusement arcades.

Above the beach road close within a maximum of one -kilometer-wide strip of the apartment complexes. Often completed facilities are to be found with private swimming pool and its own bar. Further inland wasteland to find it. It is characterized by development land, rubble ruins and agricultural wasteland.

Interrupted this structure is through the old center ( Punta Tinosa ) in the port area.

Regular events

Every year in May, here since 1992, the Ironman Lanzarote ( Lanzarote Ironman Canarias ) instead - a triathlon sporting event on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).
