Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion

The wine-growing area Puisseguin - Saint-Emilion is located in the Gironde department and is part of the Bordeaux wine region. The appellation, which has ( short AOC ) since 14 November 1936, the status of an Appellation d' Origine lies northeast of the territory of Saint- Émilion, only by the small stream of Barbanne from Saint- Émilion separately. Apart from Montagne -Saint -Emilion, Lussac -Saint -Emilion and Saint -Georges -Saint- Émilion is one of the four satellite regions, which may bear the name of Saint- Émilion in the name. At about 753 hectares ( as of 2005) of vineyards, which spread within the communities Puisseguin and Monbadon, about 44,000 hectoliters of red wine are produced annually. In the year 2005 34.648 hectoliters of wine were produced.

The red wine is vinified in the main from the Merlot grape variety. Their proportion in the blend is between 70 and 85 %, with the average in the appellation is almost 80%. Then the varieties Cabernet Franc follow ( 10 - 20 %) and Cabernet Sauvignon. Approved, but hardly of importance is the variety Malbec, which is also called to Pressac. The harvest limit is 45 hectoliters / hectare, a value which is but for years with significantly exceeded about 58 hectoliters / hectare. The juice must have a minimum alcohol content of 10 percent by volume before fermentation over a minimum sugar content of 171 g / l ( see also the article must weight ) and the finished fermented wine.

The wine can be stored for several years and should be enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 15 to 16.degree.
