Pulkkila

Pulkkila [ pulk ilɑ ː ] is a former municipality in Finland. It is located about 90 km south of the city of Oulu in Northern Ostrobothnia landscape.

The community was founded in 1867 and next to the village church Pulkkila includes the towns of Hyvärilä, Laakkola - Junnonoja, Latvankylä, Niilessaari, Terskanperä and Vorna. The two residential projects are the valley of the river Siikajoki in the north and the south of Lamujoki in the community. The Siikajoki was dammed in 1966 to the reservoir Uljuan tekojärvi. It has an area of approximately 28 km ². The hydroelectric power plant at the dam is operated by the Swedish energy company Vattenfall and supplies the nearby rolling mill of the group Ruukki Production with electricity. The steel processing industry is also the largest employer in the area.

The community policy is determined by the conservative Center Party, which holds 16 of the 17 seats in the municipal council.

On May 2, 1808 battle of the Russo- Swedish War was fought in Pulkkila. A Swedish Brigade under the command of Johan August Sandels won here a victory over the Russian troops and moved it on to Eastern Finland before.

Worth seeing is the parish church was built in 1908-09 by Josef Stenbäck in the Gothic Revival style.

At the beginning of 2009, Pulkkila joined with the municipalities Kestilä, Piippola and Rantsila together for new community Siikalatva.
