Purdiaea is a plant genus in the family of the bills Creator plants ( Clethraceae ). The genus name honors the Scottish botanist William Purdie ( 1817-1857 ).

Description

The representatives of the genus Purdiaea are trees or shrubs. The change-constant leaves are simple ( undivided ).

The terminal inflorescences are upright to semi- continuous. The hermaphroditic, flowers are radial symmetry fünfzählig with double perianth. There are five sepals present. The five petals are colored pink to purple. There are ten stamens present. The upper permanent ovary has five chambers, each with an ovule. The fruits containing one to five seeds.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Purdiaea was erected by Jules Émile Planchon 1846. Previously they had been placed in the family of Cyrillaceae; by phylogenetic insights into the close relationship with the genus Zimterlen ( Clethra ) but it was relocated to the family of certificates Creator plants ( Clethraceae ).

In the genus about 15 types are distinguished, of which only twelve in Cuba occur endemic. Two other species are native to South America, is a kind of Central America ( Belize, Guatemala and Panama) at home.
