In these dark areas there is ever a white- gray spot that looks like a crescent moon. Runs a wide light gray tie between the brown areas. The wings are jagged edges slightly irregular.

The caterpillars are about 38 mm long. They are reddish brown or dark brown and look like a small branch with buds. These bumps couples find themselves on the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth segment. The third sternum couple sitting on a bud -like thickening.

Occurrence

They come in deciduous forests and gardens everywhere and often in Central Europe.

Way of life

The butterfly angle the wing in its resting position usually from an angle. They fly in two generations. The second generation is much lighter colored and smaller. The caterpillars pupate either between leaves or on the ground. They overwinter as before they hatch in the spring.

Nutrition

The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various plants such as English oak (Quercus robur), small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata), black alder ( Alnus glutinosa), common hazel (Corylus avellana ), goat willow (Salix caprea ) and silver birch (Betula pendula).
