Putumayo World Music

Putumayo World Music is a record label based in New York City, USA, this is in turn specializes in world music and compilations. It was founded in 1993 by Dan Storper, who led a well-known fashion boutique since 1975, which was known for clothes with folkloric design and arts and crafts from Latin America.

Foundation

Storper had a degree in Latin American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis in 1973 and then traveled to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. In Colombia, probably impressed him the Putumayo valley, because according to him he named his first company Putumayo Clothing Company. Soon the media were aware of his clothing; In 1985 he had three stores and supplied 600 more to customers included Jane Fonda and Mia Farrow.
