Puxi

Puxi (Chinese Pu - Short form of the Huangpu River, Xi -West) referred to all districts of the city of Shanghai, which lie west of the Huangpu Jiang. The newly formed east side is called Pudong.

In the city center of Shanghai Puxi is; it is divided into districts, which are administratively on the county level, so their own parliaments ( people's congresses ) and governments.

The most important city in Puxi districts are:

  • Xuhui: the new shopping and " lifestyle" center of Shanghai. Currently (2005) Xuhui also has the highest real estate prices in the city. Large companies such as Microsoft, IBM, HP, Google, KFC, Lufthansa and more reside here.
  • Changning, " international " district with a high proportion of foreigners. In the 90s here many German and French have settled.
  • Huangpu: Historic District; here is the famous Bund, also the Nanjing Road Shopping District, the government of the city of Shanghai, the People's Square and many popular clubs and restaurants.
  • Hongkou: formerly a financial center, today known more for universities such as the Shanghai -SIS University or the Tongji University, which has the closest ties with German universities. This study numerous German students.

The former Luwan District, the old financial center of Shanghai, where many major Chinese schools have settled, was disbanded on 20 May 2011 and affiliated with the City Huangpu District.
