Pudong

Pudong (Chinese浦东新区/浦东新区, Pinyin Pǔdōng Xin Qū, New City District east of the Huangpu River ') is a district of the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai in the People's Republic of China. Pudong has - according to its extension by the dissolved city Nanhui District (2009) - about 2.686 million inhabitants in an area of 1210.41 km ². The population density is 2219.1 inhabitants / km ². Pudong is a very young city District: In 1990 began the construction of the hitherto sparsely populated area, which then however vonstattenging in an impressive rate.

In the extreme east of the district plan, the city Lingang, a globally recognized project of urban planning arises.

Economy

Pudong is considered the new economic and high-tech district of Shanghai, the economic growth is staggering, averaging over 20 percent since 1990. So far, over 40 billion dollars from companies outside China have been invested in Pudong. The Zhangjiang Hi- Tech Park distinguishes itself as a location for the development of biotechnology, IT and microelectronics technologies. In the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone are international financial institutions and an impressive skyscraper skyline, with many gigantic skyscrapers such as the famous 421 meter high Jin Mao Tower. Also impressive is the flashy, 468m high Oriental Pearl Tower. Since August 2008, is in Pudong and the 492 -meter-high Shanghai World Financial Center, currently the third tallest skyscraper in the world structurally. In construction is also the Shanghai Tower, which will be 632 meters high. Even now, Shanghai has immense number of skyscrapers, the most and highest of them in Pudong: 638 skyscraper is one of the city, but there are so many in the building that the city soon grows beyond a thousand skyscrapers. Pudong applies in addition to Manhattan, Central ( Hong Kong) and some districts of Dubai and Tokyo as a city with the most skyscrapers per m².

Traffic

Pudong is the world's only place that operates a maglev in public transport, the Shanghai Transrapid ( Maglev Train) that the about 30 kilometers eastern modern Shanghai Pudong Airport by metro station Lóngyáng Street in the city 's Pudong district and the Exhibition Centre Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC ) connects at 15- minute intervals. A disadvantage, however, that this station is located about 6 kilometers from the commercial center of Pudong.

Education

The main resident in Qingpu German School Shanghai operates a branch in Pudong.
