The Expressway 40 also known as Pyeongtaek - Chungju Expressway ( Kor. 평택 제천 고속도로 ) is an expressway in South Korea. The highway is a relatively short east-west route in the west of the country, between Pyeongtaek and Jincheong, south of the urban area of ​​Seoul. The route is 57 km long.

Street Description

The highway begins about 20 kilometers west of Pyeongtaek to an intersection with the Expressway 15 From here, the highway runs to the east, by a flat surface. History

The highway is relatively new, as south of Seoul in the 90s, several major cities, ports and industrial areas were built. Construction began in 1997 between Pyeongtaek and Anseong. On 12 December 2002 the section between Pyeongtaek ( Expressway 15) and Anseong opened with about 26 kilometers. On 31 August 2007, the southern bypass was opened by Anseong, with about 10 kilometers. Also in 2007, the eastern part of the highway was build started. On 11 November 2008, the section between Anseong and Jincheon opened ( Expressway 35) with about 21 kilometers in length.

Future

The highway will be built further east to Jecheon, with a distance of approximately 69.5 km. This project should be completed in December 2014. In this project, there are seven tunnels and 83 bridges.

Traffic

The volume of traffic on the highway is very low and is about 14000-30000 vehicles per day.
