Eumseong County

Eumseong is a district of the South Korean province of Chungcheongbuk -do. It is located in the northwest part of the province, on the east by the county-level city of Chungju -si and in the north by the province of Gyeonggi -do. Seat of the district is the town of Eumseong in the east of the county. A little northwest of that is Geumwang.

An earlier name of the area Seolseong (雪城). Received its current name of the county on May 26, 1895. On March 1, 1914, he received from parts of the former county Chungju -gun 9 municipalities. 1965 127,000 people lived in the county. By 1990, the population fell by more than 50,000; since then it has risen slightly again. Among the nine counties ( gun ) of the province has Eumseong the second highest number of inhabitants.

The highest mountain is 710 m of Gaseopsan ( 가섭 산 ) on the frontier against the community Sinni -myeon ( Chungju -si ).

Taizhou is twinned Eumseongs.
