Pyhäselkä

Pyhäselkä [ pyhæsɛlkæ ] is a former municipality in eastern Finland, with around 7700 inhabitants. At the beginning of 2009, it was incorporated along with Eno in the city of Joensuu.

Pyhäselkä located in the countryside of North Karelia approximately 20 km south of Joensuu on the eastern shore of the same lake, which is part of the Saimaa lake region. The community center of Pyhäselkä means Hammaslahti, the second major settlement is Reijola. Both are situated on the state road 6 of Pernå to Kajaani and the railway line to Joensuu. In addition to the municipality includes the villages Mulo Voudinkylä, Suhmura, and Niittylahti.

In Pyhäselkä is a mine and a center of the timber industry. Many residents work in Joensuu. The community benefits from the proximity to the main town of North Karelia: the population is growing from year to year, and unemployment is at 11.5 % (2002 ) is significantly lower than in most other communities of the region lagging.
