Pyotr Masherov

Pyotr Mironovich Masherov (Russian Пётр Миронович Машеров, Belarusian Пётр Міронавіч Машэраў; * 13 Februarjul / February 26 1918greg in Schyrki, .. † October 4, 1980 in Minsk) was the chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Byelorussian SSR.

He was regarded as a liberal and national -level member of the leadership and was since 1978 Hero of Socialist Labor.

Biography

Between 1942 and 1944 he led a group of Soviet partisans on Belarusian territory and received in August 1944 the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

In March 1965, Masherov First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, 1966 Member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Pyotr Masherov died in a car accident in Minsk killed.

Several streets and institutions in Belarus bear his name, including Wizebsker Masherov State University today. In honor Mascherows a bronze bust was erected in Vitebsk.
