Pyotr Mikhailovich Volkonsky

Pyotr Mikhailovich Wolkonski (Russian Пётр Михайлович Волконский, scientific transliteration Pëtr Michajlovič Volkonskij ) (* May 6, 1776 in St. Petersburg, † September 8, 1852 ) was a Russian Knyaz. He was Field Marshal and Chief of Staff since 1814. From 1826 he was Minister of the Imperial Court.

Origin and family

Pyotr Mikhailovich Prince Wolkonski comes from the noble Wolkonski and, according to the tradition of Rurik, the founder of the Russian Empire are descended, from Sviatoslav II, Grand Prince of Kiev in 1076, and the founder of the branch of Chernigov Rurik.

Life

Wolkonski chose the military profession, quickly made a career and rose to the adjutant general of the emperor and to the Field Marshal. He was also a member of the Imperial Council. For his services he was on 30 August/11. September 1834 the hereditary predicate Highness ( Svietlost ) awarded. In addition, he was appointed Knight of the Order of St. Andrew, the Seraphim Order, and on May 18, 1813 the Black Eagle. He died on 6 September 1852 in Peterhof.
