Features

Butterfly

The moths have a wingspan from 26 to 36 millimeters, and most color- graded front wing, red-brown, coppery red or purple tints prevail. The Basalfeld is tinted more or less yellowish. The middle shadow often shimmers pink. Ring and kidney blemish are boxed slightly dark, but taking nearly nothing from the underground. The hind wings are gray-brown without markings, inside often yellow-brown, darker on the outer skirt and fitted with reddish fringes.

Caterpillar, and chrysalis

The caterpillars have a greenish or reddish color and a dark, light yellowish bordered topline. Strikingly yellowish side ridge lines, wide, yellow side stripes, and large, black dot warts. The doll has a slim, elongated shape and has a small hook with four and two longer, shaped outwardly curved thorns cremaster.

Distribution and occurrence

The species is distributed locally in warmer areas in eastern Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and other countries of South Eastern Europe to the Ukraine. Elderly has claimed that she also happens in isolated areas in the Altai Mountains. Pyrrhia purpura mainly inhabited steppes, dry forest edges, clearings or bushy areas where their food grows.

Way of life

The moths fly mostly in May. The caterpillars are in June and July to be found burning bush ( Dictamnus albus) and particularly of the seed capsules. The pupae overwinter, sometimes twice.

Endangering

The species does not occur in Germany, so that it is not out on the red list of endangered species.
