Qiu Zhijie

Qiu Zhijie (Chinese邱志杰, Qiu Zhijie Pinyin, born 1969 in Zhangzhou ) is a Chinese video artist and photographer.

Life

Qiu Zhijie studied until 1992 at the Academy of Art in Hangzhou. He lives in Beijing and is established in the Chinese art scene, almost unknown in the West, however.

Work

His 2006 begun long-term project suicidology of Nanjing Yangtzi bridge includes a growing archive as well as a theoretical and practical artistic examination of the phenomenon that since its completion in 1968 over 2000 people chose the Yangtzi bridge in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing as their place of free death.
