Quai de la Rapée (Paris Métro)

Quai de la Rapée is an aboveground station of Line 5 of the Paris Métro. It is located between the streets Voie Mazas and Quai de la Rapée on the slopes of the northern shore of the Seine in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Initially, the station was named Place Mazas, since it lies on the western edge of the eponymous square. It was put into operation on July 13, 1906 with the opening of the coming of Gare d' Austerlitz route and was temporarily endpoint of the line 5 from where a track leads to the Gare de Lyon train station, which was operated during the first two weeks of shuttle trains. Four and a half months, this single-track line was then used by the trains of line 5, which changed the direction of travel in the Station Place Mazas. On 17 December 1906, the line was extended from 5 to Lancry ( since 1946 Jacques Bonsergent ) and the Station Place Mazas was a through station. The direct transport to Gare de Lyon was abandoned, this station was henceforth accessible via the interchange station Bastille.

From October 1907 to June 1916 was the name of the station Pont d' Austerlitz. The eponymous street bridge is not to be confused with the Viaduc d' Austerlitz, of which the tracks of the Metro carries far over the Seine. From that, take the path on the Viaduc du Quai de la Rapée in a sharp left turn at a 90 -degree angle results in dropping to the street level. It crosses the operating link towards Gare de Lyon and crosses in a slight S- curve the entrance to Pont d' Austerlitz. Here branches off from the operating link from the south-western railway, the main lines reach the same station on the Quai de la Rapée. It is located on a brick dam along the Seine and has side platforms on. Immediately after the station the lock Ecluse de l' Arsenal Canal Saint -Martin is crossed on the Pont - Morland metro. Then the route disappears under the Boulevard Bourdon.

The formerly eponymous Place Mazas is named after Jacques François Marc Mazas, a French general (1765-1805), the Pont d' Austerlitz to the Battle of Austerlitz, while the Mazas was killed. The former Good Râpée gave the station the current name.
