Queen's Gambit Accepted

The Queen's Gambit Accepted is a variation of the Queen's Gambit, an opening of chess. The Queen's Gambit Accepted is one of the closed-end games and is classified under the ECO codes D20 to D29. Each of its main variants begin with the following features (see also: Chess notation):

1 d2 -d4 d7 -d5 2 c2 - c4 d5xc4

The Queen's Gambit is not a typical pawn sacrifice in the opening ( Gambit ), since the difference can not defend the King's Gambit, the Black farmers in most variants about, without getting into a disadvantage.

Wilhelm Steinitz addressed the opening of successful by missed White an isolated queen's pawn. Siegbert Tarrasch knew 2 ... d5xc4 with a question mark because black so ' gives up the center '. His influence was so great that the Queen's Gambit accepted was diminishing.

Unlike the Queen's Gambit Declined Black is able to develop his bishop c8 by g4. Counter-attacks with ... e7 - e5 or c7 - c5 ... are possible without, as in the Slav Defence to lose a tempo.

Variants

The main variants of the Queen's Gambit accepted include:

  • 3 Sg1 -f3 ( e7 - e5 to prevent ) 3 ... Ng8 - f6 4 e2 -e3 e7 - e6 c7 - c5 Lf1xc4 5 6 0-0 a6 a7 is the most common continuation. Semyon Abramovich Furman plans after 7 Dd1 - e2 the train Tf1 -d1. More ... 7 b7 - b5 8 Bc4 -d3 d4 c5xd4 plus e3xd4 leads on the field, as so often in the assumed Queen's Gambit for white isolated pawn.
  • With the Rubinstein - Botvinnik - 7 variant a2 -a4 prevents white black b7 - b5 advance ... at the cost of weakening the field b4.
  • The prophylactic retreat 7 Bc4 -d3 is called Eingorn variant.
  • The other prophylactic retreat 7 Bc4 -b3 will also b7 - b5 ... 7 8 with a2 -a4 answer to ... b5- b4 to cause weakening of the field with c4. Nb1 -d2 is thus necessary, but also very useful.

Defense of the gambit pawn

The attempt to maintain the gambit pawn on c4 (using the cover 3 ... b7 - b5), fails due to the weakening of the black queenside:

1 d2 -d4 d7 -d5 2 c2 - c4 d5xc4 3 e2 -e3 b7 - b5? 4 a2 -a4 c7 - c6

  • 4 ... a6 a7 is useless, because black after 5 a4xb5 can not fight back with the a-pawn for 6 Ta1xa8.
  • 4 ... Bc8 - d7 5 a4xb5 ( otherwise Black 5 ... c7 - c6 can pull ) Ld7xb5 6 Lf1xc4? Lb5xc4 7 Dd1 -a4 ... and White gets a better position.

5 a4xb5 c6xb5 6 Dd1 -f3 and Black must give a figure to save the rook on a8 ( 6 ... Sb8 - c6 7 Df3xc6 Bc8 - d7).
