Queyras

The Queyras is a landscape in the upper reaches of the Guil in the French Hautes -Alpes Provence -Alpes- Côte d' Azur region.

In addition, Queyras founded in 1977 called the Regional Natural Parc naturel regional du Queyras, who has an extension of 60,330 hectares. In 2007, West reported a 2,295 -acre special protection zone within the nature park below the already belonging to Italy Monte Viso, the Réserve naturelle nationale de Mont Viso Ristolas.

The Queyras consists of the valley of the Guil above Guillestre and the gorge Combe du Queyras. In the Queyras, the boroughs Arvieux, Abriès, Aiguilles, Château -Ville -Vieille (consisting of the villages of Château- Queyras and Ville -Vieille ), Molines -en- Queyras, Ristolas and Saint- Véran. Moreover, contrary to geographical and historical logic now also counted for the community Ceillac Queyras, which is above Guillestre, but not above the gorge.

The Combe du Queyras between Guillestre and Château- Queyras is a narrow and picturesque gorge through which the Talzugangsstraße D902 runs today. The only other road connections from the are the Queyras mountain passes over the Col d' Izoard to Briançon and over the Col d' Agnel Valle Varaita.

The Queyras is located west of the main Alpine ridge ( which coincides with the Italian border ) and east of the headwaters of the Durance, in their turn west over 4000 m high mountain range lies Barre des Ecrins. The smaller mountain ranges in the north and south of the Queyras also reach over 3000 m. Thanks to this shielded position of the Queyras forms a strong inner-Alpine dry room.

As Canton of the Federation of Briançon the Queyras enjoyed political autonomy for a long time.
