Varaita Valley

The Valle Varaita is a valley in the Italian province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region.

The valley is located in the Cozie Alps. It is nearly 50 km long and runs west- east from the main Alpine ridge ( which here coincides with the French border ) to the Po Valley. First, the valley heads west, then south and spent approximately 15 km to the east. The mouth of the valley from the mountains is about 10 km south of Saluzzo. The mountain river Varaita flows from there to the northeast and flows approximately 30 km in the butt. Parallel valleys are the Po Valley in the north and in the south of the Valle Maira.

The valley communities are Bellino, Brossasco, Casteldelfino Costigliole Saluzzo, Frassino, Isasca, Melle, Piasco, Pontechianale, Rossana, Sampeyre, Valmala, Venasca, Verzuolo.

Between the upper reaches of the Valle Varaita and the Po Valley one of the most prominent peaks of the Western Alps, the 3841 m high Monviso is ( Monte Viso ). The upper Varaita valley is crossed by long-distance paths of the system Traversata Grande delle Alpi / Via Alpina / Sentiero Italia.

Road connections are made via the Colle di Sampeyre 2284 m by Elva in the Maira Valley, and on the Agnello 2748 m to the French Queyras.
