Quiet Sun

Quiet Sun was a British progressive rock / jazz rock band from the Canterbury scene, consisting of Phil Manzanera (guitar), Bill MacCormick ( bass ), Dave Jarrett ( keyboards) and Charles Hayward (drums).

History

Born from a college band called Pooh and the Ostrich Feather, Quiet Sun was founded in 1970 after MacCormick had with Robert Wyatt, the son of a friend of his mother befriended. The band built - as well as Soft Machine - jazz elements and sparkling keyboards in their complex music; Manzaneras energetic guitar playing but it differed significantly from Soft Machine, up to their 1975 released album bundles had (apart from bass guitar ) does not use a guitar on their regular albums and used as melody instruments besides keyboards carrier.

Quiet Sun broke up in 1972, when the newly formed group Manzanera Roxy Music joined; Hayward was only briefly a member of Gong and later founded This Heat, MacCormick founded with Robert Wyatt, Phil Miller and Dave Sinclair Matching Mole, and Jarrett was mathematics lecturer. Charles Hayward appeared in 1981 also as a guest drummer with the band Raincoats on their LP " Odyshape ".

Alongside recording his first solo album Diamond Head called Manzanera in January 1975, the former Quiet Sun band members back together, which then jointly recorded their single, highly critically acclaimed album mainstream, composed by Brian Eno in the same studio, which from the New Musical Express was voted album of the month.
