Ptilichthys goodei

The sting fish ( Ptilichthys goodei ) is a strange fish belonging to the order Perciformes.

Features

He is the only type of Ptilichthyidae family. The animals have an extremely long extended until 33 centimeters long, thin body. You have no scales, no lateral line, no tail and no pelvic fins. On the front part of the back they have 90 solitary, short spines. This is followed by a 137-145 soft rays based dorsal fin. The anal fin is supported 185-196 soft rays. Sting fish have 222-240 vertebrae.

Dissemination

Sting fish live in deeper water on the continental shelf in the cold coastal waters of the North Pacific. The distribution area extends from Japan over the Kuril Islands, the Bering Strait up to Oregon.
