Rabbe Enckell

Rabbe Arnfinn Enckell ( born March 3 1903 in Tammela, † June 17, 1974 in Helsinki ) was a Swedish finland writer, poet and painter who belongs next to Edith Södergran, Elmer Diktonius and Gunnar Björling the leading personalities of the Finland-Swedish modernism.

Life

Rabbe Enckell, was born in 1903 as son of intellectuals Karl Enckell, a professor of agricultural economics. He attended high school " Svenska normallyceum " in Helsinki that he graduated in 1921 and then studied art at the University of Helsinki. His first book Dikter he published in 1923., He had his first art exhibition in the following year. He made many trips, especially to France and Italy, but was also present at many international art exhibitions. From 1928 to 1929 he wrote for the literary magazine Quosego.

Enckell often wrote about his observations of nature. Especially the human fate was a central theme in many of his works. He was also of the ancient world, the Roman and Greek myths, fascinated, so he also wrote several stories based on these pieces. Throughout his life he published over 40 books. Typically it were his precise and clear application of the language.

Overall Enckell was married three times. He spent his last years mainly in Porvoo. , 1974 he died in Helsinki. His final works collection flyvende Spegel which contained many of his travel impressions appeared, posthumously.
