Rachid Ammar

Rashid Ammar (Arabic رشيد عمار, DMG Rasid ʿ ammar; * 1947 or 1948 in Sayada, Governorate Monastir ) is a Tunisian military personnel. He is currently (January 2011) Chief of Staff of the Tunisian army.

He was dismissed by President Zine el- Abidine Ben Ali, because he had refused on 13 January 2011 during the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011 to allow shooting at protesters. The next day, Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia and interim president Mohamed Ghannouchi put Ammar on again.
