Radical Cause

La Causa Radical ( La Causa Я or LCR ) is a left-wing political party in Venezuela, which was founded in 1971, among others, by Alfredo Maneiro. It was created following the demerger of the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS ) of the Communist Party by members, which these parties were too moderate.

Initially, the party pursued an independent, Marxist politics, but initially supported the attempted coup of Hugo Chavez in 1992, in the years 1996 and 1997, the Christian democratic COPEI and MAS. This led in 1997 to split off the supporters of presidential candidate Hugo Chavez, who then Patria Para Todos founded. After the spin-off, left the party programmatically oriented to the right.

In the parliamentary elections of 2000, she won four of the 165 seats. In the 2002 elections, she appeared as part of the Coordinadora Democrática at (Democratic coordination), a wide range of parties or NGOs, whose common denominator is the opposition to Hugo Chávez.
