Radziwiłł

Radziwill [ ɾadʒivi ˌ w] (also Radziwill, Radzivil, Lithuanian Radvilos, Радзівіл ) is the name of a Lithuanian, Polish, Belarusian and Prussian noble family, originally belonged to the Lithuanian- Belarusian nobility. The female form of the name is in Polish (also) Radziwillowna. The Radvilos were one of the oldest and most distinguished Lithuanian princely families with large estates in Poland, Lithuania and Prussia. They had also held many political offices in Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

At the meeting of Horodło 1413 Lithuania was confirmed as the Grand Duchy. 47 Lithuanian noble families were given the right to adopt a coat of arms of the Polish nobility, thus making part of this. The boyar Radvilos (strictly Nicholas Ostikowicz - Radvilos ) chose the coat of arms Trabi. 1477 gave his son Mikołaj II family final name in its Polish form Radziwill. 1515 Mikolaj Radziwill received at the Vienna Princes of Emperor Maximilian I, the Imperial Prince Radziwill for the entire family. Of the original three lines of the family clan is according to present knowledge, only one, the descendants of Mikołaj Czarny ( " the Black "). The Polish crown prince recognized the state of the family in Lublin on July 1, 1569.

Name

The popular etymological analogy played on Polish Radžić ' rate ' to secure a role. The name is etymologically but with lit. RadVila ' foundling ' associated. An early evidence dates from the year 1432 Родивилъ. The term foundling refers to the legend of the origin and relationship with the house of Witen (see Michael Casimir Radziwill: Icones Familize Duculis Radiviliane 1346-1758 ). The prefix Radzi in many names, such as in Radzikau, Radzimanowski, to name but a few still living families can be rather suspect that the rank of " royal council ", which was not introduced until the time of the personal union of Lithuania and Poland in Lithuania, was part of the name.
