Rafael Schmitz

Rafael Schmitz ( born December 17, 1980 in Blumenau ) is a Brazilian football player with German ancestry. Since the beginning of 2013, the central defender at ABC Futebol Clube is under contract.

In 2001, Schmitz for French club Lille OSC. The Dogue he played until 2003 in Ligue 1 before lent him the club for half a year at Krylia Sovetov Samara. In Russia, however, he made only nine games and returned to the end of the lending arrangement back to Lille. With his club he reached the Champions League 2005 /06, retired with his colleagues, however, in the group phase. The following year, one could again reach the pinnacle, but here was once again in the first round deadline.

For the season 2007/2008 Lille gave the 1.82 m wide Brazilians again, this time to newly promoted Birmingham City. After the descent of the "Blues " Schmitz returned to France and signed there on 23 July 2008 a three-year contract with FC Valenciennes.
