Rajka

Rajka ( German Rage village) is a municipality in western Hungary on the border with Slovakia and Austria. Located in the small area Mosonmagyaróvár of Győr -Moson -Sopron community is the border town on the M15 motorway and the railway the railway line Bratislava - Hegyeshalom.

History

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1297 as Royka. Over the centuries, the town was heavily dependent on the Danube, many residents worked as fishermen or worked in agriculture. The place was until 1923 the county Wiesel castle ( " Moson " ), here was the administrative seat of a chair district, and in 1910 lived here 1860 inhabitants, of whom 960 Hungary, 560 German and 260 Slovaks. Thus at the beginning of the 20th century, the population was German to a considerable extent. This did not change significantly until the expulsion of the Germans in the spring of 1946.

1918 should Rajka as part of the Burgenland come to Austria, the Allies decided but due to strategic considerations differently. 1947 should be to increase the Bratislava bridgehead, the place with five other locations on request of Czechoslovakia Hungary be transferred, but he remained with Bezenye in Hungary.

Due to the high land prices in Bratislava and surroundings, many Slovaks who bought after the accession of Hungary and Slovakia to the European Union in 2004, cheaper land in Hungary, thus creating a growing Slovak minority in the city. In 2012 half the population was already in Slovak. Rajka is now a suburb of Bratislava and bus lines 801 runs between Rajka center and Slovak National Theatre.
