Rajkot ( Gujarati: રાજકોટ, Rājakoṭ ) is a city in Gujarat, India, with around 1.3 million inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It lies on the Kathiawar peninsula, has a University and is textile industry center.

The city was founded in 1610 by Vibhaji Jadeja and Raju Sandhi. Rajkot was the capital of the principality named after her and was later the capital of the short-lived State Union of Saurashtra. Mahatma Gandhi lived for several years in the city, as his father was a Diwan here. The house where Gandhi lived is now a museum.

Rajkot is the administrative headquarters of the district of the same name.
