Ralf Baumeister

Ralf Baumeister ( * 1961 in Schwabach ) is a German professor of bioinformatics and molecular genetics.

Life

Baumeister graduated from a high school in 1980 at the Adam Kraft -Gymnasium Schwabach. He studied biology at the University of Erlangen, where he graduated with a diploma and then his doctorate degree with a thesis on "Molecular mechanisms of regulation of Tetrazyklinresistenzdeterminanten " ended, with which he was awarded his doctorate in 1992.

After research in Stockholm and Berlin architect from 1992 to 1995 at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. From 1995 to 2000 he was a group leader at the Gene Center Munich and founded to 1999, together with Karl -Heinz Tovar the now insolvent biotech company EleGene AG in Martinsried.

From 2000 to 2003 he was Professor of Metabolic Biochemistry at the Adolf - Butenandt - Institute of the Medical Faculty of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich. Since 2003 he has been professor as successor of Rainer Hertel at the Albert- Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, where it is since 2005 director of the Center for Systems Biology.

Research

Research interests: development of Caenorhabditis elegans animal models for gene function analysis, focus neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer 's disease, Parkinson's disease, hearing loss ) and genetic regulation of aging.
