Ralph Lewin

Ralph Lewin ( born May 21, 1953 in Basel, home justified in Basel and Necker ) is a Swiss politician (SP) and economist. He was from 1997 to 2009 Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Since 2010 he is Chairman of Bank Coop.

Education and work

Lewin studied from 1972 to 1977 sociology and economics at the University of Basel and completed internships in Maribor and The Hague. From 1977 to 1980 he was an assistant with a focus on economic policy at the University of Basel, 1981, he graduated as Dr. rer. pol. From 1981 to 1984 he was a research assistant at the Swiss National Bank ( SNB). From 1984 to 1986 Lewin was a member of the Swiss delegation to the OECD. From 1986 to 1997 he was president of the Association of public health insurance in Switzerland, Director of Public Health Insurance Basel ( ÖKK ) and then the Chairman of the Board. From 2009 to 2011 he was the Chairman of the Foundation Council of the successor organization Sympany. Since 2010 he is Chairman of Bank Coop. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Basler Kantonalbank ( the majority shareholder of Bank Coop ), President of the Swiss Association for shipping and port industries (SVS ) and the JM Jewish Media AG ( publisher of the weekly newspaper tachles ). He is a Director of the University Psychiatric Hospital Basel ( UPK ).

Policy

Ralph Lewin joined in 1978 at the SP. In 1995 he became a member of the party executive of the SP Basel-Stadt. In December 1996, Lewin was elected to the Governing Council of Basel, 2000 and 2004, he was confirmed in office. He was the Economic and Social Department ( from 2007: Department of Economics, social and environmental) before. Lewin was President of the Government of the years 2000 and 2005. Regierungsrat In 2008 elections he did not start along with party comrade Barbara Schneider. As the successor to Hans -Peter Wessels and Christoph Brutschin were elected.

Private

Lewin is married and has two children (* 1981, * 1985).
