Ralph Mann

Ralph Mann ( Ralph Vernon man, born June 16, 1949 in Long Beach, California ) is a retired American hurdler, who specializes in the 400-meter distance.

In 1972 he won with his handgestoppten best time of 48.4 s at the U.S. elimination fights for the Olympic Games in Munich. There he won with his personal best of 48.51 s electronically stopped the silver medal behind the Ugandan John Akii - Bua, who 's set a world record with 47.82, and before the British David Hemery ( 48.52 s ).

At the Pan American Games, he won gold in 1971 in Cali and 1975 in Mexico City bronze.

Four times he was U.S. champion in the 440 yards hurdles and 400m hurdles ( 1969-1971, 1975). He also won, starting for the Brigham Young University, three times at the NCAA Championship over 440 yards ( 1969-1971 ).

Ralph Mann received his doctorate after his sporting career in specialist biomechanics and was scientific advisor for the USA Track & Field Association USA Track & Field.
