Ralph McInerny

Ralph McInerny ( born February 24, 1929 † January 29, 2010 in South Bend, Indiana, USA ) was an American writer and philosopher.

Biography

After schooling McInerny studied at St. Paul Seminary in Saint Paul ( Minnesota) and the University of Minnesota and the University of Laval and graduated from each with a graduation.

In 1955 he was appointed professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and later had held the local Michael P. Grace Professor of Medieval Studies. He was also from 1979 to 2006 director of the Jacques Maritain Center. As a high school teacher, he was mainly a recognized expert of the writings of Thomas Aquinas and Thomism. 2009 was his retirement.

He was also the author of more than two dozen scientific books as well as a variety of specialized academic essays. Among his most important scientific books include:

  • " The Question of Christian Ethics", 1993
  • " Aquinas on Human Action "
  • " The Very Rich Hours of Jacques Maritain: A Spiritual Life", 2003

In 1982, he was next to Michael Novak co-founder of the magazine "Crisis " done its publications since September 2006 on the Internet at insidecatholic.com. In addition, he wrote more than 80 novels, including with "The Father Dowling Mysteries" the template for the produced between 1987 and 1991 television series " Father Dowling Mysteries " with Tom Bosley, Tracy Nelson and Mary Wickes.

In 1993 he received the Anthony Award for his writing life's work.

In 2006 he published his autobiography, " I Alone Have Escaped to Tell You: My Life and Pastimes ".
