Rami Shaaban (2006)

Rami Shaaban (* June 30, 1975 in Stockholm) is a Swedish football player. The goalkeeper, who came several times in the Swedish national team for use, played in the course of his career, among other things in Egypt, England and Norway.

Career

Shaaban was born the son of an Egyptian and a Finn. He possesses both the Swedish and the Egyptian citizenship.

Shaaban began his career at Saltsjöbadens IK. In 1995 he moved to Cairo because of his studies. Briefly, he was active for Zamalek SC, before he went to Ittihad Osman. After his return to Sweden he played for second division Nacka FF. From there he moved to the end of the 1999 to the first division Djurgårdens IF. In August 2002, he left the club, who won the double in Swedish championship and Svenska Cupen at the end of the season.

Shaaban moved to Arsenal. There, however, the breakthrough he never had. Not least because of several injuries, including a broken leg, he came to the English club to just five appearances, including three games in the Premier League. In January 2004, he was therefore loaned to West Ham United, where he was, however, not used at all. Then he joined Brighton & Hove Albion, for which he came to six games in the Football League Championship.

For the 2006 Shaaban joined free transfer to Fredrikstad FK in the Norwegian Tippeligaen, where he was able to establish itself as a goalkeeper. In February 2008, his return to Sweden, it was announced he signed a five -year contract with Hammarby IF and to have cost about four million crowns.

On 25 May 2006 Shaaban debuted in the Swedish national team. Against the Finnish national selection he remained at 0-0 clean sheets. In the following years, he established himself on the national team and became the second goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson behind the Swedish national selection. In the function of the spare man he was nominated by coach Lars Lagerback for the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship. He graduated in 2006 in Germany, the first group match against Trinidad & Tobago for the injured Isaksson and remained clean sheets.
