Randkluft

The Randkluft called in a glacier or snow field at the top and side edges often present deep gap between the ice and the final rock. The marginal gap created by the melting of ice at warmer rock. The marginal gap will therefore be more difficult to overcome in the course of the summer getting wider and climbers usually. Edge gaps are often found on comparatively low-lying glaciers, such as the blue ice in the Berchtesgaden Alps or the Höllentalferner Weather in stone.

To be distinguished from the crevasse is the bergschrund that forms at high altitude glaciers in the place where it breaks off by the flowing motion of frozen- on rock ice.
