Rannajõe

Rannajõe is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Martna ( Martna vald ). It is in Lääne in western Estonia.

Description and History

The village is located 22 kilometers southeast of the town of Haapsalu ( German Hapsal ). It has 31 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011). Through the village the river Rannamõisa ( Rannamõisa Jõgi ), which empties into the Bay of Matsalu flows.

In Rannajõe a 110 meter long boardwalk leads to a four-meter high observation tower. From it offers a wide view of the landscape of the National Park Matasalu. It is used especially in the morning and evening hours for observation of local elk.

In the field of Rannajõe the historic manor was Rannamõisa ( Vogelsang ). During the Middle Ages it was a prebend of the canons of Haapsalu. 1564, the Court Fogelsanck was mentioned. The latest from 1765 to 1873 was the farm owned by the aristocratic Baltic German family Jarmerstaedt. Last owner was Count Leo Buxhoeveden from confiscation in the course of the Estonian land reform of 1919.
