Rapalje

Rapalje (Eng. " wheel ") is an Irish folk band from Groningen in the Netherlands.

The band plays mostly traditional music from Ireland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, but also has some of his own pieces in the repertoire. They are known as a live band and played on stage kilts. The band members are multi-instrumentalists and have developed our own instrument, the Gitouki, a fusion of Irish bouzouki and guitar. Their performances are sometimes accompanied by dancers.

Band member Thief designed its own tartan and is thus a member of the McTreashcaighn clan.

History

Thief and Maceál already played together in a rock band. The two decided in 1997 to play " Celtic " folk music, and founded the duo Ruk en Pluk, which they released a cassette under the title of Celtic folk music. For this duo then, with William formed the trio De Eikeltjes aldus Ronald that occurred with street music also abroad. She later changed its name to Klootjes folk to finally become Rapalje. From this line appeared since 1997 five short CDs, two studio albums, an album composed of the first three short CDs, and a live CD. Rapalje met David Myles 2003/2004 know at a festival of Scottish folk music and immediately took him on as a live musician. Since 1 January 2009, he has been a member of Rapalje.
