Raphael Soriano

Raphael S. Soriano ( born August 1, 1904 in Rhodes, Greece, † July 21, 1988 in Claremont, California ) was an influential California architect and regional planner.

Will

Soriano attended the College Saint -Jean -Baptiste before he emigrated to the United States in 1924. In 1929 he enrolled at the University of Southern California School of Architecture, from which he graduated in 1934. In 1930 he became an American citizen. In 1961 he became an honorary member ( FAIA ) of the American Institute of Architects.

Work

He defined modernism in the United States, an architectural period of the 20th century. It was initiated in 1933 by the New Deal reforms of Franklin D. Roosevelt and ended around 1960 by the political repression of the Cold War. Raphael Soriano's role was central to the development of modern Californian steel house. Soriano is with its planned 1950 Case Study House of the Case Study House architect in Los Angeles. Soriano plan, build and explored industrially prefabricated steel and aluminum building systems for the residential and office construction. Soriano's steel houses are icons for thirty years of social, economic and technological modernization in America. One of his pupils was Pierre Koenig ( 1925-2004 ).
