Rashid Maidin

Rashid Maidin ( born October 10, 1917 in Kampung Gunung Mesah, Perak; † 1 September, 2006 Sisakoin, Southern Thailand ) was a Malaysian communist politician.

1951 Rashid joined with other nationalists in the province of Perak the Parti Kebangsaan Melayu Malaya ( PKMM ). When this was later banned by the British occupying forces, he joined the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM ) and led by appointment by the former CPM secretary Chin Peng the party organization in Pahang. In 1955 he became known to a wider public as part of the peace talks of Baling between the CPM and the later Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Rahman. After the unsuccessful termination, he fled into the jungle on the border between Thailand and Malaysia.

Only in 1989 a peace agreement between the CPM guerrilla movement and the Malaysian government was ultimately completed in a Thai place Sisakoin ( Narathiwat ).
