Rathebur is since 7 June 2009, a district of the municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald Ducherow in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern, Germany.

Geography and transport

Rathebur is located on the main road 109 Anklam is located about 21 kilometers north-west and Ueckermuende about 18 kilometers east of the village. The railway line Angermuende - Stralsund crosses the district. The place is located on the western edge of the Ueckermünder Heath.

Districts of the former municipality Rathebur were Marienthal and Rathebur.

History

Rathebur was first documented in 1271 as " Ratebur ". The Slavic name probably means " The struggle Merry ". In August 1657 the village including the church and parish buildings was cremated by a Polish soldiery. Later it was rebuilt. 1865 was the village community, a mother church, several parish building, 17 houses, 30 households, 20 outbuildings, a forge, an inn and a total of 177 inhabitants.

To coincide with the local elections on 7 June 2009, the previously independent municipalities Rathebur and Löwitz were incorporated to Ducherow.
