Ratibor (Polabian prince)

Ratibor, also called Ratse († 1043 ), was a prince of the tribe of the abodritischen part Polabs. Ratibor seat of power placed the probably built by himself on the present castle meadow of Ratzeburg, that is after him as a ring Wallburg dar.

Ratibor seems the only representative of the sub- tribe of the Polabs to have been the times could reach the position of Samtherrschers in the tribal federation of Abodrites during the absence of Gottschalk.

The short-term dominance of the Polabs in the General Association of Abodrites broke already in 1043 together, as Ratibor was killed in battle against the Danes and his eight sons, fell while trying to avenge the father in the same year in the battle on the Lürschauer Heath.
