Rauland

Rauland was from 1860 to 1964 an independent congregation in the county of Telemark.

The community was founded in the wake of border adjustments in Rauland in Vinje and Sogn Sogn Øyfjell in the community Lårdal in Tokke and currently had 988 inhabitants. The place Krusty was the administrative center of the municipality. On January 1964 it was merged with the municipality of Vinje to the new Vinje. At this time counted Rauland 1,656 inhabitants.

The name Rauland, formerly Rauðaland, comes from the Old Norse language and is probably " composed of the two words Raudi " ( bog iron ) and " country ".
