Raymond Ranjeva

Raymond Ranjeva ( born August 31, 1942 in Antananarivo ) is a lawyer from Madagascar and former Vice President of the International Court of Justice.

After graduating in law in 1965 at the University of Madagascar in Antananarivo to Ranjeva acquired in 1966 a diploma in political science at the University of Paris, where he obtained his doctorate in law in 1972.

In 1981 he was appointed professor at the University of Madagascar, where he was appointed Dean of the Law Faculty a short time later. 1988 finally he became rector of the university. In the years 1987 and 1997 he held lectures at the Hague Academy of International Law in The Hague.

On February 6, 1991 Ranjeva was elected as a judge at the International Court of Justice and confirmed on 6 February 2000. From 2003 to 2006 he served as Vice President of the Court.
