Reach-Stacker

Reach stacker, rarely also called German reach stackers are industrial trucks that are used for stacking and handling of containers and swap bodies especially in intermodal transport. It is heavy wheeled vehicles up to 50 tonnes lifting capacity and to around 100 tonnes deadweight.

In contrast to conventional fork lift trucks of the spreader ( load-receiving means ) is not mounted in Reach stackers at a mast, but at the end of an arm similar to the slanting of a telescopic crane. Thus, the Reach Stacker takes the load units from the top, if necessary across different containers. Modern vehicles, two container widths reach out far and stack containers as far as the third row. You can also extend across a track and so, for example, container transhipment directly from a train on the train in the adjacent track. A conventional truck would need for each container with the tracks cross.

Reach stackers are an inexpensive alternative to gantry cranes and straddle carriers, especially for smaller cargo handling terminals. They provide, for example, the railway container and trailer traffic in the area a new opportunity. The inclusion of a special harness, the so-called " piggyback spreaders " (sometimes called the literal meaning disfiguring to " piggyback " - English for piggyback - shortened ), also complete trailers can accommodate and build on cars, for example, often resulting in can be seen intermodal transport.

Among the most important manufacturers of Reach stackers include Terex, Kalmar, CVS Ferrari, Liebherr, Hyster, Sany and the Kion Group.
