Real Unión

Real Unión Club is a Spanish football club from the Basque city of Irun. The team was one of the founding members in 1928 of the Spanish Football League and currently plays in the Segunda División B. Real Unión has a total of four times ( at that time the only pan- Spanish championship ) won the Spanish Cup.

History

Real Unión was created in 1915 from the merger of Irun Sporting Club and Racing Club de Irun. The latter had already won the 1913 Spanish Football Cup. The club was initially the name of the Union Club Irun before Alfonso XIII. the club the addition gave Real (Spanish for Royal). During the second Spanish republic this additional disappeared by the prohibition monarchist symbols again shortly. Real Unión won three more times the Spanish Cup in 1918 and 1924 respectively in the finals against Real Madrid and 1927 against Arenas Club de Getxo. 1922 we only lost in the final against FC Barcelona. In 1932, in the fourth season after the founding of the League, the club lost the category, and could not ascend into the Primera División since then. The 2008/09 season was Real Unión as a master of Segunda División B - Group 1 finish and qualified for the playoffs as the second league. In the first round, you still failed at FC Cadiz, but the association was able to after a win and a draw in the second playoff round prevail against CE Sabadell, reaching for the first time since the season 1964/65 the second division again.
