Red Cross Nordic United World College

The Red Cross Nordic United World College ( RCNUWC ) was founded in 1995 under the patronage of Queen Sonja of Norway as the ninth United World College. Living in the College and learn 200 students from more than 80 countries, among them children from SOS Children's Villages and refugees.

Students are selected by more than 135 national selection committees worldwide on the basis of their personal aptitude, regardless of their political beliefs, religion or social status. A variety is supported by grants, so that the financial background has no effect on the selection.

The two-year boarding school is the International Baccalaureate, an international university entrance qualification, completed. However, the College focuses not only on academic performance but seeks a balance between education, social services and recreational activities. The goal of the United World Colleges is going to make " education a force that people, nations and cultures in pursuit of peace and a sustainable future combines ."

The RCNUWC located on the Norwegian west coast near the village Flekke about 150 km north of the city of Bergen and 40 km west of Forde. The college is located right next to the Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre in Haugland. Both institutions work closely together and share a variety of facilities.

The college is mostly financed by the Norwegian State. In addition, it is supported by the other Nordic countries as well as private sponsors.
